Civil War letters of Charles and his son Charles E. Bowers written to their wife and mother, Lydia, and other family members. Charles served from Apr.-July 1861 with the 5th Mass. Volunteer Infantry and from 1862 on with the 32nd. Charles E. served from June 1862 on with the 32nd Mass. Volunteer Infantry. The letters include descriptions of camp life, military routine, and the Battles of (First) Bull Run, Antietam and Chancellorsville.
